Privacy Policy

The Bright Start Early Intervention is bound by the legal requirements of the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988. As part of providing a psychological service your treating psychologist will need to collect and record personal information that is relevant to your current situation including your name, address, contact phone numbers, medical history and other personal information collected as part of providing the allied health service. This information will be a necessary part of the allied health assessment and treatment that is conducted. You do not have to give all your personal information, but if you do not, this may mean the psychological service may not be able to be provided to you. Clients may request to be anonymous or to use a pseudonym, unless it is impracticable for Bright Start Early Intervention to deal with the client or if Bright Start Early Intervention is required or authorised by law to deal with identified individuals.

Confidentiality

All personal information gathered by the allied health practitioner during the provision of the allied health service will remain confidential and secure except where:

  1. It is subpoenaed by a court; or
  2. Failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at serious and imminent risk; or
  3. Your prior approval has been obtained to:
    • provide a written report to another professional or agency (e.g. a GP or a lawyer); or
    • discuss the material with another person (eg. a parent or employer);or
  4. If disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law.

When the allied health service is at the request of a third party (e.g. employer, company or manager), general data may be given to the third party however your personal information will not be disclosed or identifiable. The allied health practitioner will discuss with all parties the boundaries in which this will occur.

The purpose of collecting and holding information

The information is gathered as part of the assessment, diagnosis, recording and programming process, and is seen only by the relevant allied health professional. The information is retained in order to document what happens during sessions, and enables the practitioner to provide a relevant and informed allied health service.

Access to information

At any stage you as a client are entitled to access to the information about you kept on file, unless the relevant legislation provides otherwise.

Cancellation policy

If, for some reason you need to cancel or postpone the appointment, you must give Bright Eyes Early Intervention at least 24 hours’ notice. If less than 24 hours is provided you will be charged the full fee of your session cost.
